Wed. at 7pm – This week on Mixtape we welcome Canadian R & B soul sensation, Tanika Charles. Whether or not her name is a familiar one now, it seems destined to become a very familiar one as her career continues to unfold. Her debut full-length album, Soul Run made its way onto the 2016 Polaris Music Prize Long List and was nominated for a JUNO this year in the R&B/Soul Recording of the Year category.

Not a bad debut, at all. Since then she’s been getting a lot of love not just in Canada but from various BBC tastemakers as well. And earlier this year Soul Run was picked up for worldwide release via an Italian label.

Raised in Edmonton, much has been made of the unhealthy relationship that led to her fleeing her Alberta home, and eventually landing in Toronto. But as Tanika has said, Soul Run is “…a post breakup album. It’s not about a breakup as such, but about finding yourself after hitting the reset button”. And now Tanika Charles and her career are on a roll. Tune in Wednesday evening at 7 to share in her stories and some of her favourite tunes.

Listen Live:  Tanika Charles joins The Sojourners’ Khari Wendell McClelland for Freedom Singer at The Club, Citadel Theatre – October 25-29.

BUT WAIT…THERE’S MORE!…Khari and Tanika and Noah Walker will be joining Baba to talk about Freedom Singer on Tuesday, October 24th at 11am – just one of the many live conversations and performances lined up for CKUA’s 2017 Fall Fundraiser!
