Restricted Advertising

The CKUA Radio Network is licensed by the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to carry a maximum of 504 minutes per week of what is known as “restricted advertising”.

"The Commission will permit simple statements of sponsorship that identify the sponsors of a program or of the station. Such statements may incorporate the names of the sponsor, the business address, hours of business and a brief general description of the types of services or products that the sponsor provides, including the price, name and brand name of the product. Such statements must not contain references to convenience, durability or desirability or contain other comparative or competitive reference." (CRTC Notice 1992-38)

CKUA Messaging Standards

All messaging must be compatible with CKUA’s internal advertising policies and CRTC guidelines.

All sponsor messages are limited to 30-seconds in length and each message is limited to the use of two brand names and one price point. Each client may broadcast a maximum of four 30-second messages per day.

Pre-produced messages and client-supplied scripts must be submitted to CKUA for approval. CKUA reserves the right to reproduce supplied messages or edit client supplied scripts when the message is not consistent with CKUA’s overall sound, program sponsorship policies and corporate standards. Only approved pre-produced messages or scripts on CKUA production request forms will be produced and/or utilized for broadcast on CKUA.

CKUA has an internal policy regarding advocacy messaging in that all messaging that is deemed by CKUA to have advocacy content must be bumpered with a statement to the effect of “The following is/was a paid announcement by...”. These messages will only contain accurate statements and specifically attributed declarations and cannot contain libellous or slanderous content. CKUA reserves the right to decline messages from corporations and organizations whose products, policies or practices are found to be significantly offensive to our listening audience.
