Wed. at 7pm – This week on Mixtape you’re invited to meet a remarkable woman. Her name is Nasra Adem, multidisciplinary artist and community organizer. Add to that:

– 2017 recipient Emerging Artist Award at the Annual Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts

– June 2016 to June 2017 served as the City of Edmonton’s Youth Poet Laureate

– Founder of Sister 2 Sister, an artist collective for feminine beings of colour.

– Artistic associate at the Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre and earlier this year acted as curator of BAM! – Edmonton’s first Black Arts Matter Festival.

Nasra is passionate about using art to disrupt, protect, educate, inspire and build. Actually, truth be told she’s passionate about a lot of things. She takes her passion into schools and talks to kids about poetry and finding your voice.

And Nasra Adem is all about freedom: from labels – from assumptions – from boxes. In fact, the more you try to define Nasra herself, the more she slips through your fingers.

This week on Mixtape, you’re invited to meet a remarkable woman. And hear the music that inspired her. What a fabulous way to spend an hour – Wednesday evening at 7.
