PERCY MAYFIELD SWING TIME 78 FROM 1951
Here’s a nice looking West Coast R&B label –
Swing Time. This is Percy Mayfield’s first record, made
before he signed with Specialty, where he recorded his stunning
string of brooding R&B classics.
Two Years Of Torture was waxed by Ray Charles in
1959, just before he left Atlantic Records, on his excellent
big band LP The Genius of Ray Charles. Interestingly,
Ray’s first 78s were released on the Swing Time label.
I don’t have any of those yet, but I’m working
on it.
