Red Nichols & His Five Pennies-Dinah (Brunswick)

Here’s an original Brunswick 78 from 1929, featuring Red Nichols & His Five Pennies. Although we heard Dinah on the May 22/06 broadcast of Roy’s Record Room, there was a tear on that label so I’ve scanned the flip side for your viewing pleasure. These early 78 labels were ornate works of art; this classic from Brunswick is an excellent example.

Red and the gang recorded Dinah in New York on April 18, 1929. Besides Red on trumpet, the cast included such future big-band luminaries as Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa and the incomparable Jack Teagarden. Great stuff - part of the totally eclectic RRR playlist.
