SCARCE 1923 FIDDLIN’ JOHN CARSON 78 ON OKEH.

Fiddlin' John Carson was already 55 when, on June 14, 1923, the OKeh label recorded Little Old Log Cabin in the Lane and The Old Hen Cackled... - the first recording by a strictly country artist and, many say, the beginning of the country music recording industry.

Ralph Peer, the talent scout for OKeh records, supposedly hated the results of that first session but skyrocketing sales of the disc prompted him to book another session in New York with Fiddlin’ John in the fall of ‘23.

Here is a hard to find 78, in rough but still playable shape, with two of the tunes recorded at that second session. We heard The Farmer Is The Man That Feeds Them All on the December 4/06 edition of RRR.
