LORETTA LYNN'S LEGENDARY FIRST 45 FROM 1960

Although the instrumental intro is your average C&W fare for early 1960, once you hear Loretta Lynn sing 'ever since you left me I've done nothing but wrong' you know you're in for something special. If you're not completely hooked by the time you've heard her push those blue notes in the second line 'many nights I've laid awake and cried' then you'd better check your pulse.

I'm A Honky Tonk Girl was a startlingly good debut from one of the Queens of Country Music, recorded for the tiny little Zero label, originally based in Vancouver. If you've seen the movie 'Coal Miner's Daughter', you'll know the story of Loretta and her husband Mooney driving the dusty US highways, taking that record to every big and little radio station they could find, finally landing the # 14 spot on the Billboard C&W chart.

Here's a scarce Canadian Sparton issue of that great 45 - heard on the June 9/08 edition of RRR.
