BOB & FERN REGAN WITH THE PEACE RIVER RANGERS (ARAGON)
You may recall hearing a blistering Bob &
Lucille rockabilly track on the May 8 ‘live’ RRR.
Well, here’s Bob with his sister Fern from a bit earlier,
extolling the virtues of their Peace River Home. I can relate
– Bob, Fern and Keray Regan all hail from the Dawson
Creek area; my own early stomping grounds.
I found this one at Fred’s record stall at the Highland
Flea Market while in Edmonton for the spring ’06 CKUA
fundraiser. We heard this one on the May 29 RRR.
Aragon was one of the first if not the
first record label in Western Canada. Label founder and owner
Al Reusch launched Aragon in 1947 to record some bagpipe records.
Country music was where they ended up making their name though;
recording artists such as Keray Regan, Buddy Reynolds, Evan
Kemp, The Calgary Range Riders, The Sons Of The Saddle, Bob
Regan, Lucille Starr, The Rhythm Pals etc. They later went
on to record some of Vancouver’s (indeed, Canada’s)
first rockabilly records (check out Bear Family’s Real
Gone Aragon CD) with rockin’ platters by the Prowlers
and the Stripes. You’ll be hearing loads of Aragon records
on future editions of ‘The Room’
