"a nourishing playlist"

A wide-ranging, carefully cultivated mix of sounds that will make your afternoon commute a pleasure.
Receiving my earliest lessons from a stack of 45s and an AM radio, my musical education didn’t fully blossom until I noticed a handbill advertising the Natch’l Blues on a radio station called CKUA that I hadn’t heard of up to that point.
A musical paradise opened up as a result and I soon abandoned top 40 radio and dove in with both ears. With a radio receiver in every room, I began to hear a little bit of everything in the wide world of music: Roy Acuff and the avant-garde, the Old-Disc Jockey and the king of Coull, Wolfgang Amadeus and Steve Reich, the Natch’l Blues and The Mixed Bag.
Destiny came calling a decade later when I received an invitation to join the offbeat and motley crew known as the CKUA family. Although I’ve come and gone a few times over the years, I’ve had the great fortune to work in all areas of the CKUA operation: the record library, the reception desk, on the mic hosting programs from bluegrass to classical, the newsroom, fundraising, studio maintenance, and directing personnel and programming.
The latest assignment? Handcrafting your daily radio soundtrack as you navigate your weekday afternoons. Monday through Friday, from 4 to 6 p.m., it’s an honour to host Freeway which comes to you live from the Calgary Foundation CKUA studio in the west block of Studio Bell, the home of the National Music Centre.
