This Wednesday evening at 7, Mixtape spends the hour with someone whose voice will be familiar to CKUA listeners as the host of CKUA’s Natch’l Blues – now in its 47th year! And as you may also know, Holger Petersen is – along with his partner Alvin Jahns – the founder of Stony Plain Records, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. And he’s a collector: of both recorded music and of the stories behind that music.
In October 2011, Holger released his first book of oral histories – transcriptions of interviews done over the course of the past 40+ years. That book, Talking Music: Blues Radio and Roots Music was a fascinating read and so we were all thrilled late last year when Volume Two arrived. Talking Music: Blues and Roots Music Mavericks is another incredible collection of interviews and that book, those stories, are the subject of this week’s Mixtape. Tune in for stories about B.B. King, Allen Toussaint, Mose Allison, Sam The Sham, Wanda Jackson, Townes Van Zandt, Solomon Burke and more.
