Baba's Grooves features music that has stood the test of time, plus soon-to-be classics. Just about anything goes: whether it's Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Hank Williams, Bob Marley or the Beatles, Baba links them all with insight, wit, an open mind and an open heart. He describes his tastes as being a mile wide--and an inch deep! While rock and pop of the 1970s have a soft spot in his heart, his grooves are chosen to be meaningful, interesting and always diverse.
Each show has its own rhythm of ebb and flow, up and down, and left and right, not unlike a butterfly fluttering in a flower garden. As befits a Saturday night show, you'll hear more pumped-up material than ballads. For Baba, the show is a tribute to the excitement and experimentation that he found on FM radio when he arrived in Canada in the 1970s: an inspired construction of sound and studio techniques which he likens to the internet revolution of today. "I know it's only rock and roll," he says, "but I like it."
